"It is not enough to simply teach children to read; we have to give them something worth reading. Something that will stretch their imaginations - something that will help them make sense of their own lives and encourage them to reach out toward people whose lives are quite different from their own." ~ Katherine Paterson

Book Haven Brings Reading to Baitul Izzah

Posted by dramprojects on 20 January, 2009

The Dram Projects (TDP) is now in partnership with Book Haven, a non-profit group that provides underprivileged children with books.

Book Haven is the link that we have been looking for, the bridge between TDP and groups that need the services that we are able to provide: a mobile library and reading activities like storytelling, book discussion groups, and creative reading and writing workshops.

Baitul IzzahThe first group Book Haven has introduced TDP to is the Baitul Izzah orphanage, a small home with 12 residents – all girls, age 12 to 17.

TDP will start two book discussion groups (ages 12 to 14, and ages 15 to 17) with the girls, probably after the Chinese New Year.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering with The Dram Projects should email info@dramprojects.com.
